Tips to Maintain a Green Lawn
A green lawn is a beautiful edition to any home. It is visually pleasing making a house look warm and inviting. A perfect lawn however, is not the easiest thing to keep up. Watering properly, fertilizing at the appropriate times and mowing are the top three things that need to be done in order to keep grass green all year long.
When watering, you want to make sure that you do it in moderation. Overwatering will result in possible fungi growth, while under watering will leave it dry. The best watering practices are to water less frequently and for a longer period of time. Water the lawn in the morning, once a week for about 20 minutes, or one inch of water, and your lawn will get the needed amount. Fertilizer should be applied two times a year; in the fall and in the spring. You should look for a slow release nitrogen based fertilizer for the best results. Care should be taken in the summer however, that the nitrogen does not burn the grass from the heat. Mowing is important for maintaing a clean look and the correct height. Depending on the type of grass that is planted and the climate, it should be mowed to a specific height. Always make sure that the blade on the mower is sharp, to ensure a clean cut.
Some other helpful tips are to make sure to keep the grass clear of toys and other objects, preventing bare, dried spots; take care of weeds and pests immediately to ensure that they do not do permanent damage and keep to a routine. Watering, fertilizing and mowing are three important ways to make sure that it stays healthy and full. Giving your lawn consistent care is important in maintaing a beautiful green color.
