Orchid Care: How to Properly Do It

Because of the orchids amazing beauty it is fast becoming the world’s most popular flower. The truth is proper orchid care is extremely easy, but the problem is not many people know the right way to care for their orchid plants. The Open Wilderness and Indoor Habitats

When summer comes around it is safe to place your orchids outside especially if you live in temperate regions. Here are some types of orchids that love these environmental conditions: cymbidiums, dendrobiums and coelogynes.  The encyclia orchid is another type of orchid that you could try planting if you have the room in your house and outside.   

If you happen to be growing terrestrial orchids you can place them outside in these conditions as well. If you want to grow terrestrial orchids that will have amazing blooms and beautiful flowers in these conditions I would suggest growing cypripedium calceolus, cypripedium reginae, and also dactylorhiza.  

Be careful: summer can be very hot and dry in temperate zones. Giving your plants ample amount of water will ensure proper orchid care during the warm months. In order to water your orchids properly make sure to water them during the morning air as this is the best time for your orchids to receive their water.

You will also need to prevent your orchids from receiving too much rain as well. Roots can decay if left in extremely wet soil for extended periods of time. Tenting the orchids can protect them from too much moisture, but must be removed when the rain stops.

The Right Way To Mounting Orchids

Orchids may also be mounted outdoors as an alternative to potting. Brassia verrucossa, Dendrobium miyakei, Encyclia polybulbon, Laelia anceps, Oncidium flexuosum, and Trichopilia tortilis are a few species that grow well on bark.  

Using the right type of orchid medium is important especially if you plant them outdoors.

You will also need sphagnum moss and plastic coated wire or fishing line. Remember, wear gloves when handling sphagnum moss, as there is a danger of fungal infection when handling it. Place the moss all along the area where you happen to be planting the orchid and around the roots of your plants as well. Using the string or wire to hold your orchids in place is what that should be used for.  

You will need to take the string or wire and tire your plant to the area you happen to mount them. By tying your orchid to the bark we will permit the plant to hook its roots into the bark in order for the mounting of orchids completed.

Giving your orchid much water while it is mounted is important because there is nothing to hold the water for your orchid.

The Proper Habitat For Outdoor Growing

The tropical regions are where you will find hundreds of different types of orchid species. Orchids that depend on hot climates and high humidity will thrive in these conditions for many years because it provides the best places to grow.
